Berea sits at the edge of Kentucky’s Appalachian foothills—about 30 miles south of Lexington—a small college town built around Berea College, America’s first interracial, co-educational, tuition-free work-study school. From the artisan shops and galleries lining Main Street to the springtime Mountain Arts Festival, the town has earned its nickname as the “Folk Arts and Crafts Capital.” Outdoor lovers can explore the Pinnacles and Anglin Falls trails or wander the Berea College Arboretum, while family-run cafés and antique stores give downtown a warm, laid-back feel.
Our clinic is part of Berea’s story. Dr. Jim Martin, a Berea College alumnus, opened his very first practice out of his garage in the early 1970s and later taught veterinary science on campus. In June 2009 he fulfilled a longtime dream by launching Advanced Animal Care Berea. In June 2022 we moved into a brand-new, purpose-built building, complete with modern exam rooms, digital X-rays, an in-house lab, surgical and dental suites, and spacious boarding and grooming areas.
Today, our Berea clinic—open weekdays from 8 am to 5 pm and the first and third Saturdays of each month—offers wellness exams, vaccinations, soft-tissue and dental surgery, nutrition counseling, an annual Doggy Day Spa, and a lifesaving blood-donor program. While we close overnight and on Sundays, our close ties with our sister 24-hour emergency hospital mean your pet’s records and care team are always within reach if something urgent comes up. We’re proud to keep Berea’s pets healthy, happy, and right by their families’ sides.
